1. How much will I have to pay for counseling?
The fee starts at $75.00 per counseling session and slides to meet the client's ability to pay. Everybody pays something (except the homeless) but no one is denied treatment because of an inability to pay.
2. Does my fee go to the counselor?
No, Your payment goes towards NDCC's operating expenses.
3. Where does New Directions acquire its counselors?
There are two sources. The first is local churches. Talented and gifted people are recruited each year and given a nine-month
raining program. The applicants are tested extensively and evaluated by the trainers as well as the Center's Clinical
Director to determine their suitability as counselors. The second source is the graduate psychology programs at local
colleges and universities. New Directions is a major training site for Masters and Ph D. level candidates. The State of
California requires that mental health practitioners gain three thousand (3,000) hours of supervised clinical experience
prior to obtaining a license.
4. What kind of training and supervision do the counselors receive at the center?
Each counselor is supervised weekly (one hour of individual or two hours of group) by a fully qualified supervisor. Each supervisor is a licensed clinician with at least two years experience and special training in supervising.
New Directions is an approved site for the continuing education of licensed clinicians, so the counselors are joined by licensed professionals from the community. This produces a rich and high-quality training experience.
